Fly Fishing

From beginner to those more experienced I can cater for all. Come along with me for a fun filled day of tuition, beautiful scenery, cool clear water and sight fishing to rising trout. Let me introduce you to the world of Fly Fishing for New Zealand’s spectacular Browns. For those more adventurous souls who would like to try their hand at night fishing along the lake edges and streams mouths this can be done with a mouse pattern (season depending) or a streamer fly. Let me take you to places where as I like to call it, where the “Big Boys” come out to play. These are the places where large trout tend to hang out.

Spey and Skagit

A very “old” style of fishing that originated in Scotland and which is becoming more and more popular on the New Zealand scene is Spey Casting. There is also the Skagit style, with the Skagit style having been developed on the Skagit river in the Pacific North West of America. I bought my first Spey Rod back in 1999/2000 and learning the styles on the Bulkley River in Northern British Colombia, Canada, I then began my move into the “World of Swinging Flies”. I find both these styles very comfortable to use and relatively easy to learn, like most new activities it just takes practice. So for anyone wanting to try this I can supply all the gear you need including tuition to start you on the road to what is a very comfortable and relaxing way to fish.

Spin Fishing

One of the most easiest methods to learn and which can be used on many types of water. Spin fishing is where the majority of fisherman start their life long enjoyment of wetting a line. For a fun filled day for those wanting to learn to fish age is no barrier. Give me a call and let’s go where you can learn the casting styles , learn to tie fast and effective knots and what lures work best in local waters. Come and enjoy a homemade lunch and snacks along the river bank or lake shore. All gear is available for hire.
