A very “old” style of fishing that originated in Scotland and which is becoming more and more popular on the New Zealand scene is Spey Casting. There is also the Skagit style, with the Skagit style having been developed on the Skagit river in the Pacific North West of America. I bought my first Spey Rod back in 1999/2000 and learning the styles on the Bulkley River in Northern British Colombia, Canada, I then began my move into the “World of Swinging Flies”. I find both these styles very comfortable to use and relatively easy to learn, like most new activities it just takes practice. So for anyone wanting to try this I can supply all the gear you need including tuition to start you on the road to what is a very comfortable and relaxing way to fish.
